Leather Embroidery in Columbia, SC

Specialized embroidery on leather jackets, vests, patches, bags, and decorative panels — handled with leather-specific needles, the right stabilizers, and test runs before any needle touches your piece.

Leather doesn't heal — we treat it that way

Unlike woven fabric, leather doesn't recover from misplaced needle holes. We use leather-specific needles, correct stitch density, and careful machine speed every single time.

Tested before we touch your piece

For any leather project, we run test stitch-outs on similar material first to dial in settings and confirm the look — so the work on your actual piece is right the first time.

Bold, durable, eye-catching

Leather embroidery makes a statement. Names, logos, and designs sit boldly on the surface and last through years of wear. We pick fonts and densities that make the most of the medium.

Honest about what's possible

Some leather pieces can't be safely embroidered, and some designs work much better as a sewn-on patch. We'll tell you up front if a different approach will give you a better result.

How an appointment works

  1. 1

    Bring or send the piece

Bring the leather item to your appointment, or send detailed photos ahead of time. Shirly evaluates the leather thickness, finish, and intended placement before committing.

  2. 2

    Test, plan, approve

We run test stitch-outs on similar leather to dial in settings, confirm the design and placement with you, and walk through any risks before the needle touches your piece.

  3. 3

    Stitched and finished

Your leather piece is stitched on commercial machines with leather-specific needles in our Devine Street studio. Most leather projects take 1–2 weeks depending on complexity.

Pricing & turnaround

Leather embroidery is priced individually based on stitch count, design complexity, and the leather's thickness and finish. We always quote in writing after evaluating the piece in person — and we'll be honest if a sewn-on patch will look better than direct embroidery for your specific item.

Leather is bold, durable, and eye-catching—but it is also unforgiving when handled incorrectly. Clever Orchid offers leather embroidery for clients who want names, logos, or designs applied to leather jackets, vests, patches, bags, or decorative panels. Every project starts with a careful evaluation so that the stitching enhances the piece without compromising its integrity.

Why leather embroidery is different

Unlike woven fabric, leather does not heal from needle holes. It is critical to use the right needle size, stitch density, and machine speed. Shirly uses leather-specific needles, appropriate stabilizers, and test runs on similar materials to dial in the settings before stitching on your piece.

Common leather embroidery projects

  • Names or monograms on leather jackets and vests
  • Custom patches to be sewn onto leather garments
  • Logos or emblems for small businesses and clubs
  • Decorative accents on leather bags or accessories

Direct embroidery vs. patches

For some items, direct embroidery on the leather is the best option. In other cases, a custom embroidered patch that is then sewn onto the leather is safer and more flexible. Shirly will walk you through the pros and cons of each approach based on the thickness, finish, and value of your item so you can make an informed choice.

Ideal clients

  • Individuals with favorite leather jackets or vests
  • Car clubs, motorcycle groups, and social organizations
  • Small businesses wanting a unique branded piece
  • Gift givers looking for a distinctive, long-lasting present

Timing and appointments

Leather embroidery is offered by appointment so items can be evaluated in person. Most projects require several days depending on the design and stitching area. Rush options may be available for smaller projects or simple monograms.

Frequently asked questions

Can you embroider on leather jackets?

Yes — leather jackets are one of our most common leather projects. We use leather-specific needles, appropriate stabilizers, and test runs to confirm settings before stitching on your jacket.

Why is leather embroidery harder than fabric embroidery?

Leather doesn't heal from needle holes the way woven fabric does. If the stitch density, needle size, or machine speed is wrong, the result is permanent damage. Specialized handling — needles, stabilizers, and tested settings — is essential.

What if my leather piece can't be embroidered safely?

If direct embroidery isn't right for your specific leather item, we'll tell you up front and recommend alternatives like a custom embroidered patch sewn or attached to the piece. The result often looks better and is safer for the leather.

Can you do MC, club, or team patches on leather vests?

Yes. Bring the vest and any approved patches or designs. We can stitch directly on the vest in some cases, attach existing patches, or produce new custom patches and apply them — whichever approach is right for the piece and the design.

How long does a leather embroidery project take?

Most leather projects take 1–2 weeks once the design is approved, including time for test stitch-outs on similar material. Complex multi-color or large designs may take longer.

Will the embroidery hold up on a leather jacket I wear often?

Yes — when done correctly with the right thread, stabilizer, and stitch density, embroidery on leather is extremely durable and holds up well to regular wear. The bigger risk on leather is the original setup, not long-term wear.
