One-of-a-Kind Embroidery Projects in Columbia, SC

Special, personal, often sentimental embroidery projects that don't fit a standard order form — handwriting from a loved one, vintage logos, heirloom pieces, and ideas other shops said no to.

We say yes to ideas other shops won't

If you've been told "no" because your idea is unusual, sentimental, or not high-volume, there's a very good chance Clever Orchid is the right fit.

Handwriting and personal artifacts

We can stitch handwriting from a card, recipe, or note from a loved one — turning a scrap of paper into something you carry with you.

Honest about risks on heirloom pieces

If your item is delicate or irreplaceable, we'll walk through the risks and recommend alternative techniques or placements before any needle touches the fabric.

Quoted up front, no surprises

Pricing is based on complexity, stitch count, and any digitizing work needed. We quote before starting so you know exactly what to expect.

How an appointment works

  1. 1

    Send the story

Call, text, or send a message describing what you have in mind, including photos of the item or artwork. We'll let you know if it sounds like a fit and book an appointment.

  2. 2

    In-person consult

Bring the item to your appointment. Shirly will examine it, talk through placement and technique, walk through any risks, and recommend the best approach for your specific piece.

  3. 3

    Stitched with care

Once you approve the design and quote, your project is stitched in our Devine Street studio. For irreplaceable pieces, we may stitch a test on similar fabric first.

Pricing & turnaround

One-off projects are priced individually based on complexity, stitch count, fabric type, and any digitizing or design work needed (handwriting digitizing, vintage logo recreation, etc.). We always quote in writing before starting and can usually give a rough range during the first conversation.

Some embroidery ideas are so unique that they do not belong in a menu of standard services—and that is where one-off projects come in. Clever Orchid welcomes these special requests, whether it is stitching handwriting from a loved one's note, recreating a vintage logo on a modern garment, or adding meaningful text to an heirloom piece. Because every one-off project is different, the first step is a conversation. You can call, text, or send a message describing what you have in mind, and then we will schedule an appointment to look at the item and talk through options. We will be honest if we think a different technique or placement would work better, and we will walk through any risks on delicate or irreplaceable pieces. These projects are often deeply personal and time-intensive, so we recommend reaching out as early as possible—especially if you have a specific date in mind. Pricing is based on complexity, stitch count, and fabric type, and may include a design or digitizing fee if we are starting from handwritten or photographic elements. If you have been told “no” by other shops because your idea is unusual or not high-volume enough, there is a good chance it might be a perfect fit for Clever Orchid.

Frequently asked questions

Can you stitch handwriting from a loved one's note or card?

Yes — this is one of our most meaningful projects. Send a clear photo of the handwriting, and we'll digitize it as a stitch file so the original lines, loops, and spacing are preserved. The result can be embroidered onto almost any garment, blanket, or piece of fabric.

Can you recreate a vintage or damaged logo?

Often, yes. Bring in the original piece (or a clear photo) and we'll talk through how to digitize a modern stitch version. For damaged or worn pieces, we can sometimes use the surviving design as a reference.

I have an heirloom piece I'm nervous about — will you embroider it?

We treat heirloom and irreplaceable items with extra care. Shirly will examine the fabric, lining, and seams in person, walk through the risks honestly, and recommend the safest technique. If embroidery isn't safe for your piece, we'll tell you up front and suggest an alternative like a sewn-on patch.

How much does a one-off project cost?

It depends on complexity, stitch count, fabric, and whether we need to digitize handwriting or artwork. We can usually give a rough range during the first phone or text conversation, and we quote in writing before starting any work.

Do you do memorial or tribute pieces?

Yes. Memorial pieces — names, dates, signatures, meaningful phrases, or symbols — are some of our most personal projects. We treat them with the care they deserve.

How long does a one-off project take?

Most one-off projects take 1–3 weeks depending on complexity and digitizing needs. Complex artwork recreation or test stitch-outs add time. Share your timeline up front so we can plan around any deadlines.
