Custom Embroidery Design & Logo Digitizing in Columbia, SC

We turn artwork, logos, and rough ideas into clean, stitch-ready embroidery files — designed by hand, tested on the actual fabric, and kept on file for every reorder.

Digitized for embroidery, not just converted

Auto-conversion tools produce stitch files that look fine on screen and stitch terribly. We adjust density, underlay, pull compensation, and detail by hand for the actual fabric.

Test stitch-outs before commitment

For complex logos and high-value runs, we stitch a sample on similar fabric so you can see exactly how it looks before we touch your final pieces.

We can start from an idea

Don't have finished art? Bring a sketch, a description, or a Pinterest board. Shirly will help you build a layout, choose fonts, and refine the design in person.

Files kept on hand for reorders

Once a design is approved, we save the stitch file, thread colors, and notes so future garments, gifts, or staff orders use the exact same artwork without starting over.

How an appointment works

  1. 1

    Send what you have

Email artwork, bring a high-quality print, or just describe the idea. We'll let you know if it's ready to digitize as-is or what we'd recommend changing first.

  2. 2

    Design consult with Shirly

We talk through how the design will translate to thread, what fabric you want to stitch on, what size you need, and how the colors should look in real thread.

  3. 3

    Digitize, sample, approve

We create the stitch file by hand, run a test stitch-out for complex designs, and confirm the final look with you before producing your actual order.

Pricing & turnaround

Digitizing is a one-time setup cost based on stitch count and complexity, not an ongoing fee. Once your design is approved, you can use it on as many future garments as you want with no additional setup. We always quote digitizing in writing before starting.

Great embroidery starts with great digitizing. Custom embroidery design is the process of converting artwork, logos, or photographs into stitch files that tell the embroidery machine exactly how to sew your design. At Clever Orchid, this work is done carefully and thoughtfully to respect both your original art and the fabric it will be stitched on. If you already have a logo or graphic, you can email it ahead of your appointment or bring a high-quality print to your visit. Shirly will review the artwork with you and talk about how it will translate to thread. Fine lines, gradients, and tiny details often need to be simplified or adjusted so they read clearly when stitched, especially at smaller sizes. For clients starting with an idea rather than finished art, we can help refine text layouts, choose fonts that sew nicely, and build a design that looks professional and balanced. This is especially important for uniforms, graduation stoles, and items that will be photographed or seen by many people. The custom design process may include test stitch-outs on similar fabric to confirm how the design behaves under the needle. Adjustments to density, underlay, and pull compensation are made so the final result looks smooth and is built to last through wear and washing. Once the design is approved, we can use it across many different items: polos, jackets, hats, blankets, bags, and more. Because we keep your final stitch files and notes on file, it is easy to come back in the future to add new garments or gifts with the same artwork. This is especially valuable for businesses, schools, and organizations that want consistent branding across many pieces.

Frequently asked questions

What's the difference between digitizing and just uploading my logo?

Auto-conversion tools turn an image into a stitch file mathematically, but the result often has wrong densities, missing underlay, and poor detail handling — leading to puckered or messy stitching. Hand digitizing tunes every part of the design for the specific fabric, size, and machine path so it stitches cleanly.

Do I need a vector logo to get started?

It helps, but it's not required. A clean high-resolution PNG or even a good print can work. If your only file is a small or low-quality image, we'll talk about whether it needs to be cleaned up first.

Can you design something from scratch?

Yes. If you only have an idea, we can help build a layout, choose fonts that sew nicely, and refine the design together during your appointment. This is common for graduation stoles, wedding gifts, and small business launches.

How much does logo digitizing cost?

Digitizing is a one-time charge based on stitch count and complexity — small simple logos are inexpensive, multi-color complex logos cost more. We quote in writing before starting, and the cost only happens once: future orders with the same design have no additional digitizing fee.

Do you keep my stitch file after the project?

Yes. We save your final stitch file, thread colors, and any notes so future garments, gift pieces, staff additions, or seasonal restocks all use the exact same approved design.

Can you fix a logo that's stitching badly?

Often, yes. If you've had a logo digitized elsewhere and the result looks rough, bring a stitch sample and the original artwork. We'll evaluate whether it needs tweaking or a full re-digitize.
