Sew-On Patch Attachment in Columbia, SC

Bring your patches, we'll attach them — pinned in place for your approval, then stitched with care so they stay put through years of wear and washing.

Pinned for your approval before sewing

We position every patch on the garment and pin it in place so you can see exactly where it will land. Nothing is stitched until you confirm the placement.

Secure, professional stitching

Patches are sewn on commercial machines with thread and stitch patterns matched to the fabric. The attachment is durable enough for frequent wear and machine washing.

Any garment, any patch type

Jackets, vests, uniforms, bags, blankets, hats — if the fabric can accept a needle, we can attach a patch to it. Sew-on, iron-on reinforcement, and chenille letter attachment all welcome.

One patch or a whole collection

Single commemorative patch? Dozen merit badges? Full jacket build-out over several seasons? We handle every scale, from one-off keepsakes to multi-year varsity jacket programs.

How an appointment works

  1. 1

    Bring your patches and garment

Bring the item you want patched plus all the patches, letters, or pins you want attached. If you're not sure about placement, send a photo ahead of time.

  2. 2

    We pin and you approve

Shirly will position each patch on the garment and pin it in place. You review the layout, adjust anything that needs to move, and confirm before any stitching begins.

  3. 3

    Stitched and ready for pickup

Patches are sewn on our commercial machines. Most patch attachment projects finish within a few days to a week, depending on the number of patches and how busy the studio is.

Pricing & turnaround

Patch attachment pricing depends on the number of patches, size, and the type of garment. Smaller jobs (1–3 patches) are quick and affordable. Larger projects like full varsity jacket build-outs or motorcycle vest layouts are quoted based on total scope. We always confirm pricing before starting.

If you already have patches and need them professionally attached, Clever Orchid can help. We sew patches onto jackets, vests, uniforms, bags, and other items with careful placement and durable stitching on our commercial machines.

How patch attachment works

During your appointment, Shirly will position each patch on the garment and pin it in place so you can see exactly where it will sit. Nothing is stitched until you approve the layout. This step is especially important for varsity jackets, motorcycle vests, and Scout uniforms where precise placement matters.

Common patch attachment projects

We regularly attach patches for Scout troops (merit badges, rank patches, council strips), motorcycle and riding clubs (back patches, rockers, side patches on leather vests), varsity and letterman jackets (chenille letters, sport patches, year bars, award patches), military and veteran organizations, and law enforcement and fire departments.

Leather, denim, wool, and more

Different fabrics require different approaches. Leather vests need heavier needles and adjusted tension. Wool varsity jackets need care to avoid puckering around chenille letters. Denim and canvas are straightforward but benefit from proper stabilization. Our commercial machines handle all of these materials, and Shirly will match thread color and stitch pattern to the garment.

Building a jacket over time

Many customers — especially students with varsity jackets and riders with club vests — build their garment over multiple visits. We keep notes on thread colors, fonts, and placement from previous sessions so returning customers get consistent results across years. The jacket or vest grows with you.

Frequently asked questions

Can you sew patches onto a leather vest or jacket?

Yes — we regularly attach patches to leather motorcycle vests and jackets. Leather requires heavier needles and adjusted tension, which our commercial machines handle. We'll discuss thread color and placement during your appointment.

Do you attach Scout merit badges?

Yes. We sew merit badges, rank patches, and council patches onto Scout sashes, vests, and uniforms. We pin everything for placement approval before stitching — especially important when there are specific BSA placement guidelines to follow.

Can you attach chenille letters to a varsity jacket?

Yes — chenille letter attachment is one of our most common patch jobs. We pin each letter and patch for layout approval, then stitch them securely. Many students build their jacket over multiple seasons and come back each year to add new patches.

How long does patch attachment take?

Most patch attachment projects finish within a few days to one week. Simpler jobs (1–3 patches on a single garment) can sometimes turn around faster. Share your deadline up front so we can plan accordingly.

Can you remove old patches before attaching new ones?

In many cases, yes. We can carefully remove existing patches and clean up the area before attaching new ones. Some fabrics may show marks from the previous stitching — we'll let you know what to expect before starting.
